T is for Tiffany’s – but now its also for transparency. Tiffany, as its New Year’s resolution, is joining in on the ethics and transparency trend and has announced its plan to share the origin of its individually sourced diamonds in its new Diamond Sourcing Initiative. It sounds like this industry leader heard the cries of the new throng of sustainable shoppers demanding more supply chain transparency.
“Tiffany & Co. has long been committed to diamond traceability and going above and beyond industry norms to promote the protection of the environment and human rights” – Anisa Kamadoli Costa, chief sustainability officer, Tiffany & Co.
Tiffany will be tracing diamonds of .18 carats and higher through a minuscule etching of the brand logo. Along with origin sourcing, it will also provide more information on the creation journey and the various steps that make Tiffany diamonds so beautiful.
This will be a huge movement in the industry and will likely prompt other brands to follow suit: Tiffany & Co is generally seen as a benchmark in the industry.
